Activities - General

The European Medical Students’ Council is a political body created by EMSA, with the aim of working towards the common goals of medical students throughout the European Union and geographical Europe.

Common priorities identified include student welfare and the possibility of future standardisation of protocols in European medical schools, as well as the ever-changing medical curricula in individual nations. EMSA and the EMS Council hope to establish what the newly graduated physician should be proficient at and whether a previously proposed “Core Curriculum” (the implementation of the Bologna Process), could be standardised/harmonized throughout Europe. Further issues of concern include plans to push for changes in medical school policies regarding applicants with disabilities (including learning disabilities) and it has been proposed that European-wide standardisation of admissions procedures can be solution for this.

The main objectives of the EMS Council are to:

  1. Represent the interests and opinions of the medical students in geographical Europe
  2. Discuss and form joint policies on issues surrounding young people
  3. Defend the rights and interests of medical students across Europe.
